Aluminium intensive battery enclosures for electric vehicles

ALIVE stands for Aluminium Intensive Vehicle Enclosures and is a £15 million project, including a £7.5 million government grant through the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK.

The project is led by Constellium, the global leader in the development and manufacturing of high value-added aluminium products and solutions. ALIVE has designed, developed, assembled, and extensively tested aluminium intensive prototype enclosures and full-scale demonstrator enclosures for major OEMs.

About the Author

Dr. Nicholas Welton, Technical Manager at Powdertech Surface Science, is a surface chemistry specialist with a PhD in Polymer Chemistry and over 25 years’ experience in polymer coatings, corrosion protection, and TiZr passivation.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3) and leads Powdertech’s R&D programmes with major OEMs, developing innovative coating and bonding technologies for the automotive, EVs, and other performance-critical sectors.
