40 years of trust, growth and innovation at Powdertech Surface Science.

Powdertech Surface Science celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, a year which also saw the company post record sales figures. Our success has been built on innovation, technical skill and the expertise of our team. Since the start, we have aimed to consistently improve our processes and help our customers deliver their promises to others.

And it all started with one man’s understanding of the powder coating business and the belief in his conviction and vision that 'things could be done better’. Martyn Green started Powdertech in Bicester, Oxfordshire, in 1984. From a six-people team, Powdertech expanded to become two companies in 1989. Powdertech (Corby) Ltd focused on architectural work while in Bicester we started to coat aluminium and zinc castings for the automotive sector.

Innovations at Powdertech Surface Science -

In 2001, Powdertech became the first site in the UK to implement only chromate-free pre-treatments and acquired work in the aerospace, medical and specialist engineering sectors wherein we offer specialist coatings and advanced bonding techniques.

At the start of 2021, we introduced solar panels for electricity generation. We aim to generate at least 20% of our electricity usage from renewable electricity, to reduce our carbon output and offset our carbon emissions.

And later in 2021, we built a separate on-site facility to offer INTRICOAT, a powder coating solution for intricate components, requiring CAD masking schemes. It focuses on high value aluminium components that led us to partner with industry leaders in the aviation, medical, and sports sectors.

In 2022, we had our on-site testing lab set up with universal testing machines like Instron and XRF. They are equipped to perform a wide range of mechanical tests including tensile, compression, bend, peel, tear, friction, shear testing and cleanness of metal. In October 2024 we installed a 6-axis Lesta robot to further improve powder coating efficiency and accuracy.
