Powder coating colour-matched for Virgin Airlines Upper Class seating

Powdertech Surface Science was tasked with both developing the powder and applying the coatings to the new Virgin Upper class seating on their fleet of newly introduced Airbus A330’s.

Colour matching in powder coating

Aluminium is the perfect material for aircraft seating, being light, very strong and highly recylable. Our powder coating for aluminium services offer the best possible metal protection and aesthetic performance.

In conjunction with the powder supplier we developed two specific colours for this Virgin Atlantic project, a gloss white and a semi-gloss metallic brown.

Powdertech Surface Science rates supply chain coordination as vital

Within the supply chain we were the exclusive coating supplier, co-ordinating with several different sub-contract component manufacturers, all producing different seating components, of which there were over thirty in total. We developed a coating specification that was standardised across all of the supply chain which ensured a consistent, high quality finish that was expected on this type of application.

Traceability of all parts through the supply chain was of high importance, which was achieved by having systems in place with all supply chain members.
